Hasken Matasa: “Shun Violence, Embrace Unity, Peace During Elections,” Youths Tell Peers

AREWA AGENDA – Well meaning Nigerian youth have called on their peers to embrace unity in diversity and patriotism during election campaigns in order to achieve a violent free exercise.

They said everyone is entitled to support and promote whomever they find worth of their support but should do so without hurting people or destroying their properties.

Comrade Auwal Abubakar, founder All Care Charitable Initiative, and Khadija Aliyu Ammani made the call during their appearance as guests on the 63rd episode of Hasken Matasa where they discussed the theme of the week’s programme titled: “2023 General Election: The Role of Youth towards Violent Free Campaigns.”

“Interestingly, about 70% of electorates are youths, and they make up the highest number during rallies, this tells you that they can determine how tranquil or otherwise the campaign and even the election can be.

“Mind you, this too can only be achieved if we understand democracy in every sense of the word and embrace patriotism.” Comrade Auwal reckons.

On her part Khadija said: “Though we are all different and believe in different things, if we respect the difference and become united, avoid little or excessive substance abuse, and embrace entrepreneurship, I am convinced that as youth we can make the exercise as violent free as it can be.”

The guest admonished all Nigerians to avoid being used as objects of disruption, vote merchandising and other electoral malpractices so the country can get a leader favoured by the people in a free and fair poll come 2023.

Hasken Matasa, which literally translates into “Light of the Youths”, is a weekly programme on topical youth oriented issues organised by the Community Health and Research Initiative (CHR) and the Youth Society for Prevention of Infectious Diseases and Social Vices (YOSPIS), is sponsored by the Aminu Magashi Garba Foundation (AMG Foundation).
