Northern: Shehu Sani Urges Buhari Buhari to Delegate Gowon, Abdulsalam to Resolve Crisis

AREWA AGENDA – Shehu Sani, a former senator, has asked President Muhammadu Buhari to set up a committee over the ethno-religious crisis in the north.

Sani, who issued the advice on Monday, said the delegation should include Yakubu Gowon and Abdulsalami Abubakar, former heads of state; Jubril Aminu, a former senator, and Audu Ogbeh, former minister of agriculture.

Sani asked the president to focus on the northern region, adding that the “south has no sectarian or religious conflicts.”

“President Buhari should humbly delegate Gen Gowon, Abdulsami Abubakar, Audu Ogbe, Prof Jubril Aminu to lead a new initiative to end the ethno religious crisis in parts of the North & the herdsmen-farmers violence & restore peace,” Sani wrote.

“The South has no sectarian or religious conflicts”.

Several states in the north have been plagued by insurgency and clashes between herders and farmers in recent years.

The federal government had proposed the establishment of cattle colonies to curb the increasing cases of clashes between farmers and herdsmen.

While some state governors bought the idea and allocated land for the colonies, others rejected it.
