Governor Zulum Recieves Report by the Highpowered Committee on State Public Service Reform

AREWA AGENDA – Borno State Governor receives report by the High-powered Committee on State Service Reform

Prof. Babagana Umara Zulum constituted the committee under the leadership of the SSG Alh Usman Shuwa, after taking the mantle of leadership, to checkmate the activities of the Public services in a view to reform it.

The SSG, in his remarks, expressed his appreciation the Governor for deeming them worthy to the duty and commended his quest for the general transformation of the public service in the state.

Reiterating the resilience of the Governor towards the reformation of the public service informed that he is the first Governor to set up his office at the state secretariat, which is the nerve center of public services.

He also applauded the Governor for the general renovation of offices in the secretariat complex, which happens to be the first of its kind since its establishment about 59 years ago.

While stating the major areas of the reports, he highlighted that the issues of Retirees and verification of the staff of the public services were all addressed. The committee had a membership of prominent and reputable public and civil servants in the state.

Prof Babagana Umara Zulum, in his response, commended the efforts of the Committee and assured them that the 41 recommendations presented by the committee shall be looked into to ensure the effective reformation of the public and civil service.

Further, stating that the committee was not set up to witch hunt anyone but for reform and for policy revitalization, which is important in the development of the MDAs and the public service in the state with a view to restore the lost glory of the civil service.

Assuring the commitee that some of the recommendations such as Promotional Examinations and Establishment of Zonal Offices require immediate implementation, while some are deemed for systematic long term reform. To this effect, the SSG was directed to facilitate the establishment of The zonal offices with furniture and logistics and the office of the HOS should submit its quotations.

The ministry of Higher Education/ Science and technology should submit a criteria for accreditation of the tertiary institutions in the state to improve the production of quality manpower to the public service.

Finally, the Governor recommended the Introduction of E-Governance.
