Governor Abba Commends Empowerment Efforts, as 6,000 Youth, Women Graduate from NGO’s Training Program

In a powerful display of commitment to youth and women empowerment, the Governor of Kano State, Alhaji Kabir Yusuf Abba, has emphasized his administration’s continued efforts to uplift these key demographics through various skill development initiatives.

The Governor, who was represented by the Commissioner for Rural and Community Development, Honourable Abass Sani Abass, made this declaration on Saturday during the graduation ceremony of 6,000 youth and women trained by the Better Life For Women And Children Future Foundation, a prominent non-governmental organization (NGO) in the state.

Speaking at the event, Honourable Abass commended the organization for its contribution to the economic development of the state by providing participants with the tools to become self-reliant. “The Kano State government has launched numerous programs to support women and youth in becoming self-employed and self-sufficient.

“Today’s graduation is a testament to the progress we are making toward this goal,”

“We are proud of this partnership with Better Life For Women And Children Future Foundation, which has played a vital role in building the capacity of our people.”

The graduates, who successfully completed a series of training programs in various vocational skills, were celebrated for their determination and hard work.

These programs are part of the foundation’s larger mission to train 10,000 women and youth per state, with Kano being the first state to benefit from this initiative.

Ambassador Samirah Abubakar Abdullahi, the President of the foundation, addressed the graduates and the audience, sharing her motivations behind launching this impactful initiative. “The current socio-economic challenges in Nigeria, including youth unemployment and gender inequality, deeply moved me to act.

“This program is my way of giving back to society by equipping women and youth with critical skills that will make them self-reliant and capable of thriving independently,” she explained.

Since its inception, the Better Life For Women And Children Future Foundation has trained a total of 8,000 participants in Kano, with 2,000 graduates in April and another 6,000 now completing their courses.

Dr Samirah highlighted the diverse range of skills imparted to the trainees, including solar management and installation, tailoring, fashion design, farming, cooking, bakery, poultry, fishing, and more.

“These are the skills that can transform lives and create sustainable livelihoods,” she said, stressing that the aim was not just to train, but to ensure that each participant is equipped to launch their own businesses or secure meaningful employment.

“Our mission is clear: to make these graduates self-reliant and to help them create opportunities for themselves and their communities,”

“We want them to go out and be the change they wish to see in the world.”

The graduation ceremony was attended by various dignitaries, including government officials, community leaders, and members of the NGO, who all expressed support for the empowerment of women and youth in the state.

Many graduates also shared their gratitude for the training, expressing optimism about their futures as entrepreneurs and skilled workers.

Kano State’s government has made it clear that empowering its youth and women is a top priority, with continued investments in training and skills development. Programs like this one are seen as essential steps toward alleviating unemployment, reducing poverty, and fostering economic independence across the state.
