State Gov’t Partners Donor Agencies to Boost Solid Mineral Sector Governance
The Kano State Ministry of Solid Mineral and Natural Resources has expressed its readiness to collaborate with local and international donor agencies to formulate policies that will enhance good governance in the sector.
Commissioner Alhaji Safiyanu Hamza Kachako made this assertion during an interactive meeting with representatives of Partnership for Agile Governance and Climate Engagement (PACE), a 48-month program funded by UK International Development.

The Partnership for Agile Governance and Climate Engagement (PACE) will assist the ministry in developing policies that promote good governance. By focusing on key areas, PACE aims to foster a supportive policy framework that aligns with the community’s needs and priorities. This collaboration will emphasize the importance of data collection and community-led initiatives, enabling a better understanding of local challenges and supporting targeted interventions. Through these efforts, the program seeks to strengthen governance structures and drive revenue generation by addressing issues at the community level.
Additionally, PACE will focus on capacity building and effective human resource management to ensure efficient operations within the ministry. This includes providing guidance on job descriptions, budget preparations, and various aspects of human resource management. To support economic growth, the program will also offer tools for harnessing solid mineral resources, aiming to create a favorable environment for potential investors. By empowering local communities and streamlining internal processes, PACE hopes to stimulate investment and economic development across the region.
Dr. Garba Bala Magaji, PACE program consultant, emphasized that mining contributes significantly to climate change challenges. He advised the ministry to leverage these challenges to access international support and forums.
The partnership is a significant step towards promoting good governance in Kano State’s solid mineral sector, and the ministry is committed to responding positively to the collaboration.
