‘Good Samaritans’ Rescues Abandoned Newborn in Kano

A newborn baby girl was discovered abandoned on a street in the Yar Akwa area of Naibawa, within Tarauni Local Government Area, Kano State.

The infant was found by a group of men at a nearby tea shop who heard the baby crying. Shamsuddeen Sabiu, a witness, described the moment: “Initially, we thought the sound was from a cat, but upon investigating, we saw two security guards with the baby. They asked us to help them take the baby to the house of the ward head, which we did.”

The baby was found dressed in clothes and diapers, suggesting some level of preparation for her abandonment.

Jamilu Abba Danladi, the Ward Head of Yar Akwa, confirmed receiving the baby and expressed relief that she was both alive and healthy. The community has since come together to support the ward head in caring for the infant, with many offering assistance.

The ward head has requested ongoing prayers and support for the baby’s welfare.

Authorities are currently investigating the circumstances of the abandonment and are working to locate the mother and understand her reasons.

The incident has highlighted growing concerns about baby abandonment in the region. The community is calling for anyone with information about the baby’s mother to come forward to help ensure the child receives proper care and support.
