2023: Gawuna, Kwankwaso, Garo Other Commissioners, political appointees resign in Kano
AREWA AGENDA – So far no fewer than eight members of the Kano State Executive Council have resigned their appointments with the state government to pursue their political careers.
Those that resigned so far included the Commissioner for Water Resources, Sadiq Aminu Wali, Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Murtala Sule Garo, Commissioner for Budget, Nura Dankadai, Commissioner for Education, Sanusi Sa’idu Kiru and Commissioner for Rural Development Musa Illyasu Kwankwaso, Commissioner for Special Duties Mukhtar Ishaq Yakasai, Commissioner of culture and tourism Hon. Ibrahim Ahmad Karaye, and Commissioner of transport Hon. Mahmoud Muhammad Santsi.
Information reaching to AREWA AGENDA revealed that also Deputy Governor, Dr. Nasiru Yusuf Gawuna resigned his position of Commissioner of Agriculture.

Information from the office of the Secretary to the State Government also indicated that some Senior Special Assistants and Special Assistants have equally tendered their letters of resignations. Among them are Hon. Abdullahi M Gwarzo Babangandu, the managing director of the Refuse Management and Sanitation Board (REMASAB), Malam Ali Bullet, the advisor to the governor on transport, Dr. . Aliyu Musa Aliyu Kibiya, Chief Director of Hisba Commission, Comrade. Ahmad Dauda Lawan, the SSA Public Infrastructure among others to come.
The rush to resign was sequel to a government’s ultimatum asking political appointees wishing to contest for elective positions in the forthcoming 2023 elections to resign their appointments.
A statement signed by Abba Anwar, Chief Press Secretary to Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, gave the affected officers between Saturday to Monday 18th April, 2022, to tender their resignation letters.
The press statement explained that the directive was in compliance with Section 84 (12) of the newly amended Electoral Act.
