Northern Youth Group Urges FG to Tackle Economic, Security Challenges in Region
AREWA AGENDA – A Northern Youth group under the guise of Arewa Youth Consultative Council, AYCC, has called on the federal government to address both economic and security challenges bedeviling the country, particularly the northern region.
This was contained in a communique issued to journalist after its National Executive Council meeting in Kano.
Issued by its Director of Media and Communication, Mr. Muhammad Ibrahim Milb, the communique highlighted issues surrounding the hike in electricity tariff and fuel as well as the ongoing banditry in the region.
The full communique reads;
His Excelllecy,
President Muhammadu Buhari,
The president of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and commander-in-chief of the Nigerian Armed Forces.
Through:
Mr. Abubakar Malami, SAN,
THE ATTORNEY-GENERAL OF THE FEDERATION/MINISTER OF JUSTICE.
Sir,
CALL FOR URGENT ACTION TO ADDRESS CERTAIN ISSUES AFFECTING THE YOUTHS OF AREWA AND NIGERIA:
Your Excelllecy sir, kindly accept our greetings and assurances to continue being partners in progress both for Arewa and Nigeria. We further wish to convey our communique following the resolution of the National Executive Council meeting on our
17th Executive session held on the 21st September 2020 in preparation of celebrating Nigeria at 60, while analyzing the condition of our youths and to express our concern and recommendation to lots of issues arising that may continue to ignite problems to our people especially the youths and to call for your urgent intervention.

Our first concern is on the step taken by Katsina and Zamfara state governments in treating bandits as if they’re not claiming lives everyday, we felt that any acts of amnesty, compensation or government massaging the bandits wrongly is a threatening bomb to the future of AREWA and Nigeria. It is true that amnesty were given to both the Niger Delta Militants and repentant Boko Haram, even though those amnesties had their challenges and impacts, but looking at the continous cases of banditry, kidnapping and reckless killings in both Katsina, Zamfara and other parts of Northern Nigeria, we write to appeal for the Federal government to intervene and ensure that we don’t commit the greatest mistake of our future, because we felt that giving this kind of amnesty is as good as encouraging other jobless forces to form or join other forms of criminality in order to also benefit similar recognition, materail and financial benefits whenever they are ready to surrender.
Our second concern is about the recent Economic Policies of the government; especially those that lead to the hike in prices of petrol, electricity, and consumable items and considered by the majority of our people as unfavorable and unbearable. We wish to appeal to the President to consider readjusting these policies to ease businesses and support the survival of our population.
Our third issue is an urgent call to the Economic and Financial Crimes commission (EFCC), Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offenses Commission (ICPC) National Human Right Commission and all other civil Society Organizations to urgently query the Kano based musician Dauda Kahutu, popularly known as Rarara and Kaduna based Musician Adam A. Zango, for demanding and receiving Millions of Naira from ordinary Nigerians. We as a conscious citizens of Nigeria condemned all acts related to systematic fraud and societal exploitation aimed at extorting money using the names of President Buhari, Alh Atiku and Sen. Kwankwaso while agencies, groups and individuals couldn’t challenge them properly.
We equally wish to remind those that chose to send the money to these musicians, we’re confident that most or all are from the 19 Northern states and we are in a region that need similar contribution to alleviate the sufferings of our orphans, helpless children and especially to provide a better condition to our IDP camps. We finally wish to call our religious leaders, traditional rulers, parents, teachers and all the stakeholders that ought to be guiding the populace toward channelling our energy and resources to progressive engagements, we shouldn’t be allowing our youths to fail us by acting in manners that are uncalled for, we should always try to guide our thoughts, actions and inactions as they’ll always have tailing effects to our values, aspirations, future and the general system. May Allah elevate us all. Kindly accept our highest regards. Thank you.
Yours Sincerely,
Hon. Muhammad Ibrahim Milb,
National Director of Media and Communications.
