Drainage Construction: Sokoto Residents Warned Against Reconstructing Demolished Buildings
Residents of Mabera area affected by the ongoing construction of drainages embarked upon by the Nigeria Erosion and Watershed Management Project (NEWMAP )Sokoto have been advised to desist from reconstruction of their demolished structures pending the completion of the Works.
Project Engineer, Engineer Kabiru Shikkau Yabo, gave the advice today while fielding questions from Journalists shortly after the inspection visit of the ongoing Works at the site.
Engineer Kabiru Shikkau Yabo said, this was for the safety of the rebuilt structures as heavy duty machines are used by the contracting firm.
Engineer Kabiru explained that, though, the Project was in collaboration between Sokoto State Government and World Bank was aimed at addressing flooding being experienced in every rainy season in Mabera area.
According to him, the current administration of Governor Aminu Waziri Tambuwal( Mutawallen Daular Uthmaniyya) has committed over one billion Naira as counter part to the Project.

He said, the Work will cover about 18klms length which comprises Mabera Iddi, Jelani, Mujaya, Mabera Jariri, Nakasare and Trade Fair among others.
This according to him, the contract was awarded to the COVERG AND COBERG NIGERIA LIMITED at the coast of two point three billion Naira with the completion period of 8th Month.
While expressing satisfaction with the level and quality of the Works, the Project Engineer said, the Project has sofar reached 27th percent stage of completion.
He further said, a total of 17th drains would be constructed comprises of 4 major and 13th sub-drains.
According to him, the Ministry of Environment under the leadership of Hon Sagir Attahiru Dalhatu Bafarawa and Project Coordinator Umar Abdullahi Gatawa would remain committed in ensuring that, the works will be executed within the specific period.
Some of the Project Affected Persons( PAPs) interviewed expressed gratitude to Almighty Allah and gave passed marks to Governor Aminu Waziri Tambuwal for embarking on to the Project.
The inspection was conducted along with Senior Special Assistant to the Governor Hon Yusuf Dingyadi.
