The Kano State Government says it has no plans to demolish a bridge in Gwarzo town, headquarters of Gwarzo Local Government Area.
The bridge was reported to have been constructed by the Deputy President of the Senate, Senator Barau Jibrin.
The state Commissioner for Information and Internal Affairs, Malam Halilu Dantiye, confirmed this to newsmen on Wednesday in Kano.
The Commissioner said that some people had approached the state government seeking for the reconstruction of the collapsed bridge.
He said the government had already mobilised its team of engineers who surveyed the affected bridge, adding that all necessary engineering jobs for the bridge are ongoing.

He, however, said that some overzealous groups went to the site and commenced some minor handy works, with a propaganda that Barau constructed a bridge, which the state government planned to demolish it.
He said: “The collapsed bridge which is located at Gwarzo town bypass was washed away three weeks ago following a torrential rainfall that caused flooding in the area.
“Following the flooding, residents said the locals appealed to the state government to work on it.
“Plans are already on the way to reconstruct the bridge only for the group to protest that there was a bridge which we are planning to destroy.”
Dantiye said Jibrin, when contacted by the state government, said he was not aware of any bridge he built that was causing friction between him and state government.
