CSOs, Media Promotes Government Accountability After CHRICED Series of Engagement.

AREWA AGENDA – The Executive Director of Resource Centre for Human Rights and Civic Education CHRICED, Comrade Dr Ibrahim M. Zikirullahi has said, with vigorous engagement at the grassoots, reaching out to public office holders, and relevant stakeholders through a series of community enlightenment workshops, accountability reports, advocacy, stakeholders consultative meetings, dissemination of information, education and communication
(IEC) materials CHRICED have effectively promoted transparency and also increases the level of awareness of citizens’ participation and inclusion in the Kano State Constituency Project on the planning and implementation processes.

Dr Zikirullahi who was ably represented by CHRICED Senior Program Officer, Omoniye Adewoye while briefing Newsmen on the State of Constituency Project “Promotion of Community- Driven Anti-Corruption Initiatives” supported by John D Catherine T and MacArthur foundation further said; CHRICED overall aim is to reduce the practising of corruption delivering to constituency projects using a citizen activism approach by conducting 8 community enlightenment workshop for 263 participants in 37 Local Government areas.
He opined that, CHRICED has so far trained media and civil society organizations to boost their capacity for investigating, tracking and reporting public expenditure on constituency projects which has enhanced the bold step of invoking the freedom of information act to demand Accountability from the government regarding Government expenditure on constituency projects in their Communities.
In addition, CHRICED has selected some capable Journalists in investigating and report on constituency project expenditure by putting into practice what they learn in the vigorous workshop. Also, the CHRICED has been in working hands with Anti Corruption Agencies in the country and state such as the Independent Corrupt Practice and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC), Economic and Financial Crime Commission (EFCC) and Kano State Public Complaints And Anti-corruption Commission (PCACC).
Furthermore, CHRICED has been in a series of Radio programs to reach the local community members on several topics that involve constituency projects, Accountability and access to information. The weekly Radio program Engaged Government officials, legislators, ministries, and agencies.
