Crime Correspondents Advocate Better Welfare For Police Officers
AREWA AGENDA – The Crime Correspondents Association Of Nigeria (CCAN) has advocated better welfare and condition of service for police and other security officers in the country with a view to boosting their courage in fighting crimes.
As crime takes different dimensions and shapes in the country, CCAN said the security agencies required adequate funding and training of the officers in oder to win the war against enemies of the state and people.
The call was made at the inauguration of the new executives of the CCAN held on Monday in Abuja.
The keynote speaker of the ceremony, Dr Aminu Magashi Garba of African Health Budget Network, lamented the economic hardship and loss of lives occasioned by the coronavirus in the country, charging the Association to address the challenges of under reporting of the global health problem and crime.

Speaking, Barister Esther Uzoma, said the Government and Nigerians should not expect much from the neglected and under funding police and other security agencies saddled with the responsibility of protecting lives and property.
Uzoma, a human right lawyer, lamented: “security sector especially police force whose their responsibility is to maintain peace among the citizen are below the standard welfarism ranging from poor conditions of training schools, poor feeding allowance in the course of training (150 naira per day), poor salaries scale before and after retirement.”
The new leadership of CCAN are Hassan Zaggi – Chairman, Olusegun Olatunji – Vice Chairman, Festus Fifen- Secretary.
Others are Peter Ireh- Assistant Secretary, Modupeola Oyewale- Treasurer, Oluwakemi Kindness- Financial Secretary, Kanayo Umeh – PRO, Ejike Ejike- welfare Secretary and Joseph Undu – Provost.
The new chairman in his remarks expressed his profound gratitude to the Inspector General of Police and other high rank officers for their mutual support to the Association.
