COVID-19: Kano Coalition Distributes Facemasks, Sanitizers, Sensitizes Local Community

AREWA AGENDA – The Kano State Civil Society Action Coalition on Education For All (CSACEFA), a COVID-19 sensitization excersise which culminated into free distribution of face mask and sanitizers to some selected organization and stakeholders in Gayawa Community of Ungogo Local Government Area.

The sensitization which was hinged on the Theme, ‘Each one Teach one’, immensely encouraged the beneficiaries to give back what they have learned to their community in term retraining and application of the preventative measures skill acquired and beyond.

The beneficiaries of the distribution scheme cut across different associations and groups and were given dozens of face mask, hand sanitizers, and other COVID-19 preventation and control items.

In his address at the sensitization, Professor Muhammad Bello Shitu, Chairman Inclusive Community Education said that the Coalition is contributing it’s own quota towards complimenting government effort in curtailing COVID-19.

” Also we have sensitized the community of the importance of complying with the COVID-19 guidelines and most importantly we enlightened them on how the novel disease effect education severely. You see the educational sector has been jeopardized and without proper precaution things will be worse,” he said calling on the community to be engaging their children educationally.

On his part, Musa Abdullahi Sufi from Adamu Abubakar Gwarzo Foundation in his remark urged the people to be orderly and maintain the protocol, avoid overcrowding, maintain social distancing, make use of the face masks and sanitizers.

“It is not only this items that we are distributing, but we are also distributing the protocol for coronavirus.” He said, calling on people to ignore uncessary blame shifting on countries or individuals responsible for the disease, “COVID-19 is real let’s fight it all together.”

In her remarks, Habiba Abubakar Mijinyawa, of the Federation of Muslim Women Association of Nigeria (FOMWAN), stated that the government cannot do it alone, NGOs and philanthropist need to assist multifacetedly in the fight against COVID-19.

She appreciated the gender sensitiveness of the event noting that women were also engaged, “Women are very integral part of the society, they are main actors of teaching, I’m quite sure they will transfer the knowledge acquired from this sensitization to their children, husband’s, and acquintance,” she said.

Some of the beneficiaries of the distributed items include Gayawa Development Association, Fahimta Download Association, Gayawa Youths Forum for Development (GYFORD), Gayawa Islamic Schools Association, Ungogo Youths Active Ambassadors and Dankunkuru Old Students Association.

Others are Gayawa PHC, Zabi Sonka Association (Gayawa Chapter) and Gandu Youths Development Association.
