Court Orders Kano Govt to Pay N30bn Compensation to Victims of Eid Ground Demolition

A Federal High Court Sitting in Kano has awarded the cost of 30 billion naira as compensation to victims of the Kano Eid ground demolition.

Justice Simon Amobeda read the judgement in a suit filed before his court by some victims of the demolition exercise led by governor Abba Kabir Yusuf a week after assuming the mantle of leadership in the state.

The court had ordered the state government not to enter into the eid ground for the purpose of using or giving it to others.

The governor had earlier told newsmen that the demolition was for the interest of Kano State and was meant to return Kano to its original master plan.

Some of the places demolished by the governor include Hajj Camp, a three story building at Daula Hotel and a number of newly built shops at Dukawuya Senior Secondary School.
