Court Fixes Date for Suit Against Emir of Zazzau

AREWA AGENDA – A Kaduna State High Court sitting in Zaria has adjourned the suit filed by a Prince of Zazzau, Alhaji Bashir Aminu (Iyan Zazzau), challenging the appointment of Ambassador Ahmad Nuhu Bamalli as emir of Zazzau.

On Monday, Justice Kabiru Dabo directed the prosecution to serve all parties before the next adjourned date of October 27.

Counsel to the plaintiff Samuel Atum, who stood in for Ustaz Yunus (SAN), told reporters they were challenging the process of the appointment of the emir.

Defendants in the suit are, Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai, Balarabe Abbas Lawal (Secretary to Kaduna State Governor), Attorney General of Kaduna State, Jafaru Sani (Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs), Zazzau Emirate Council, Alhaji Ibrahim Muhammad Aminu (Wazirin Zazzau), Alhaji Umaru Muhammad (Fagachin Zazzau), Alhaji Muhammad Abbas (Makama Karamin Zazzau), Alhaji Dalhatu Kasimu Imam (Limamin Jumu’an Zazzau), Alhaji Muhammad Sani Aliyu (Limamin Kona Zazzau) and Ambassador Ahmad Nuhu Bamalli

Earlier in a motion of notice, the plaintiff sought various reliefs:

“A declaration that the plaintiff is still the emir of Zazzau and is entitled to all rights and privileges pertaining thereto.

“An order setting aside the purported appointment of the 10th defendant (Ambassador Ahmad Nuhu Bamalli) as the emir of Zazzau.

“An injunction restraining the first, second, third and fourth defendants from acting in the installation of the 10th defendant to the throne of the emir of Zazzau or presenting to the 10th defendant the staff of office until the final determination of the suit;

“An order of perpetual injunction restraining the defendants either by themselves, agents, privies, servants or through any person or persons howsoever from treating, presenting or dealing with or installing the 10th defendant as the emir of Zazzau;

“An order of perpetual injunction restraining the 10th defendant from parading, presenting or styling himself as the emir of Zazzau or from putting on or wearing any paraphernalia or insignia of the emir of Zazzau.”
