CODE Urges Kano Govt to Pass Violence Against Persons Prohibition Act
The executive founder of connected Development, Mal Hamzat Lawal made this known to newsmen in Kano during two days training on Galvanising Mass Action Against Gender Based violence to 30 young advocates in Kano state.
Mal. Hamzat said the training was in collaboration with Canadian High commission in Nigeria with the main of advocating for the domestication of Child Rights Act and Violence Against persons Prohibition Act, which will also address sexual abuse. “We believe if this will be done women and girls will have safe space in the society.” He said
Mal. Hamzat added that, the COVID-19 pandemic and it’s resultant lockdown was a very harsh era which brought about cases of sexual abuse particularly on women and girls especially at the grassroots level where their voices are not to being heard making it difficult for justice to prevail.
“CODE believe in knowledge transfer and enhancing capacity, advocacy, campaign messages, policy making and communition activities,” he added
On his part, the founder of Bridge Connect Mal Sani Muhammad said, Kano state government is passionate towards protecting the interest of women and girl child in the State. “We look forward to partner with many who are willing to support gender based violence in the State and ensure enactment of the VAPP act. By doing so in Kano ,many northern states will syndicate the gesture.”
A paralegal participant, Mrs Rose said the training was an educative and brainstorming experience to all advocates who are in the field to fight against gender based violence in the country, “if such training will continue for all stakeholders, many unheard voices will be heard and justice will be done.”
Save the Women and Children Intiative, Isa Wali Intiative, Rescue the Women Foundation, NAPTIP, several media Organization and more around the state participated in the training.
