CHRICED To Kano Government: Implement Free Maternal and Child Healthcare Law to Attract Donors
The Resource Center for Human and Civic Right Education (CHRICED) highlighted the potential benefits of the Kano State Free Maternal and Child Healthcare Law, urging the current administration to implement it effectively.
The statement was made by Omoniyi Adewoye, CHRICED’s program officer, on Thursday during community enlightenment workshop, in Kumbotso Local Government Area of the state.
Omoniyi emphasized that proper enforcement of the law could attract significant sponsorship and donations, helping to bolster maternal and child health services.
The workshop, which gathered a diverse group including community members, health workers, and local leaders, aimed to shed light on the importance of maternal and child health care.

He pointed out that ignorance remains a major barrier and noted that a veteran matron was brought in to educate participants on effective practices in this crucial area.
CHRICED, acknowledging its role as a catalyst rather than a direct implementer, advocates for the law’s implementation and calls on the government to activate its provisions.
He said this legal framework is designed to reduce mortality rates through comprehensive public education and improved health services.
Omoniyi then commended the governor’s recent efforts, including refurbishing Hasiya Bayero’s Mother and Child Hospital, and urged for the law to be revisited for proper implementation
. He also highlighted the law’s potential to attract philanthropy and funding if executed as planned, especially in the areas of providing facilities, consumables and drugs.
