Cancer Support Trust Fund Takes Off in Kano
AREWA AGENDA – The Community Health and Research Initiative (CHR) in partnership with Save A Life Cancer Awareness and Support Network (SALCASUN) has inaugurated the Cancer Support Trust Fund in Kano State which aimed at ensuring sustainable financing mechanism for supporting the less privileged afflicted with cancer as well as cancer survivors through the provision of yearly annual insurance coverage as well as the payment for drugs and screening.
The inauguration is part of the commemoration of World Cancer Day. The Day is observed worldwide on February 4th every year and the aim is to inform and encourage people on its prevention, early detection, and treatment. The 2021 World Cancer Day is themed “I Am And I Will”.

The Founder/CEO Save A Life Cancer Awareness and Support Network (SALCASUN) Hajiya Hauwa Kagudi while addressing journalists on Thursday noted that “Many Cancer patients are facing difficulties, they can’t cater for their hospital bills and can’t afford their routine drugs which poses a great threat to their lives” she added that “The growing deaths and suffering of cancer patients with fewer strategic supportive system is alarming, however, we should not lose hope and remember today is about “I Am And I Will”.
The objective of the initiative according to the Program Manager, Community Health and Research Initiative (CHR) Mal. Sulaiman Umar Jalo “Is to set up and manage the Cancer Support Trust Fund and to jointly ensure synergy between the two parties especially in Information sharing and collaborative fund raising”.
The two organizations have set up the Cancer Support Trust Fund Board of Trustees which include Dr. Musa Muhammad Bello, Mal. Salisu Muhammad Musa, Ms. Abigail A Ogah, Dr. Tijjani Magashi, Mal. Aisha Tafida and Dr. Nafisa Abdullahi for the provision of oversight function and administration of the fund.

Earlier speaking, the Special Assistant to the Kano State Governor on NGOs Hajiya Yardada Maikano Bichi pledged the commitment of Kano state gov’t toward the development of this giant initiative.
