BUK Special Needs Students Charge School Authority on More Inclusivive Services

The community of People With Special Needs (PWSN) in Bayero University Kano, have called on governments at all levels to create inclusive environments for their enhanced academic performances.
The call was made made by the President of Special Education Students Association of Nigeria (SPESAN) BUK chapter, Mr oyeniyi Kudus during the one-day celebration for the way forward for the special needs students in the school.
He noted that inclusive attention to the special needs students are imperative to boost their academic performances as well as their social welfares.
The maiden celebration in the university history had in attendance the Student Union Government President, Comrade Aliyu Sadauki, who oversaw the the celebration.
Comrade Sadauki while responding to the numerous demands from the special needs students noted that his government had donated walking sticks for students with visual impairments for easy mobility.

He promised his administration would ensure there are projects in place to take care of the academic and social welfare of all the students.
Also in attendance was Professor Hassana Darma, who recalled that from 20 ago years till date that there have been massive enrollments for inclusion in educational aspects for people with special needs in the country.
She added that it has been a great achievement towards promoting inclusive environments for people with special needs.
“Bayero university is among the few universities in the country that provides a learning space for people with special needs at the higher level with progressive records.
“However, During my tenure as Head of Department,a lot of project was introduced such as special needs library, securing admission, Employment,and political inclusion for special students.
“Effective services, advocacy and awareness creation contribute to the records of students with special needs to acquire quality education” she said.
Also speaking during the occasion was the head of department, Special Education, Prof kyauta Ibrahim .
He pledged to enhance effective services in the department and recruitment of additional sign language interpreters in various departments in the university.
