BREAKING: Kano, Jigawa Orders Closure of all Schools

AREWA AGENDA– The Kano State governor, Abdullahi Ganduje and that of Jigawa State, Mohammed Badaru Abubakar has ordered the closure of all public and private schools in the state with immediate effect.

In a brief statement by the Kano state commissioner for Education, Sanusi Kiru, the state government did not give reasons for the decision.

“His Excellency, The Executive Governor of Kano State has approved the closure of all public and private schools in the state with immediate effect.

“Parents whose children are in boarding schools are to also arrange and convey their children/wards back home from tomorrow, Wednesday, 16th December, 2020.

“All inconveniences are regretted,” Kano statement added.

In another vein, the Permanent Secretary Ministry of Education, Science and Technology, Jigawa State, Alhaji Rabi’u Adamu Dutse released a statement advising parents to prepare for the evacuation of their children back home tomorrow on 16th December, 2020.

Neighboring Kaduna state had earlier shut down its own school as escalation in the cases of COVID-19 infections in the country forces some states to shut down schools, resurgence of abduction and banditry forces others to take the decision.

In the wake of mass abductions of schoolboys in Kankara, the Katsina State Government shut all boarding schools in the state, while the Zamfara State Government, which shares borders with Katsina, took a similar decision to forestall recurrence of the Kankara incident.
