Bauchi State Within The Week Under Review

Monday, 19th October, 2020 was a special day in the history of Bauchi State as the state was able to hold a two-day health submit.

His Excellency, the Executive Governor of Bauchi State Senator Bala Abdulkadir Muhammed participated at the opening ceremony of the summit at Command Guest Bauchi.

Special Assistant on New Media, Lawal Muazu Bauchi reported that, Governor Bala Mohammed, in his opening speech, Governor Bala said his administration was organizing the summit to identify new opportunities and approaches providing health care delivery in developing world to revitalize the state health care delivery system.

On his part, the Special Guest of Honour and Minister of Health, Dr.Osagie Emmanuel Ehanire commanded Governor Bala for coming up with the summit which he described as timely and in line with the healthcare direction of President Muhammadu Buhari.

Other development partners who spoke at the opening ceremony, congratulated the governor and Bauchi State for various initiatives in the health sector and assured their support to achieve the desired goals.

In a related development, His Excellency, the Executive Governor of Bauchi State Senator Bala Abdulkadir Muhammed on Tuesday participated fully at a day two of the first Bauchi Health Summit at Command Guest Bauchi.

Governor Bala arrived at the venue earlier in the morning where he was at the venue before the arrival of the participants just to show his commitment towards the conduct of the summit.

Speaking with journalists after the closing of the summit, Governor Bala said with the conduct of the summit, the state government is set for the delivery of effective healthcare services to the citizens.

The Governor expressed gratitude to Federal Government, Development Partners and other stakeholders in the health sector for their full participation throughout the summit and looked forward for continued partnership.

The State Commissioner for Health, Dr Aliyu Maigoro read the communique issued at the end of the summit which focused on finding solutions to identified challenges.

On Wednesday, 21st October, 2020 comes a report that His Excellency, the Executive Governor of Bauchi State, Senator Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed had received in audience National Project Coordinator of the Agro-Processing, Agricultural Productivity Enhancement and Livelihood Improvement Support (APPEALS) project, Muhammad Sani Jobdi at the Bauchi State Government House.

The visit, according to the coordinator, was to strengthen the bilateral relationship with the State Government on improving the living standards of agriculture, training of women and youths among others.

Governor Bala Muhammad thanked the delegation for the visit and charged them to work hand in hand with his administration’s plans in bettering the lives of the citizens by empowering women and vulnerable youths.

The governor presented a commitment letter to the team leader assuring him of his firm dedication and support for the implementation of the program in the State.

On the same day, Bauchi State Government inaugurated technical committee and that of expatriate monitoring committee of the Engineering Regulations Monitoring, Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria (COREN) in the state as part of efforts to add value for money in engineering projects.

Governor Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed who inaugurated the committees at Mini Chamber, Government House Bauchi, charged the committees to come up with inflexible regulations that will guide the principles and practices of the profession as well as ensure adherence to project specifications.

The Governor said the inauguration of the technical committee of the COREN is to complement the efforts of the organisation in revolutionizing the practice of engineering in Nigeria and the state in particular.

He pointed out that, the engineering regulations monitoring is part of the mandate of the Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria (COREN) as specified in its amended act which further widened the horizon of its authority.

” With this inauguration, the era of mediocrity should be gone. Engineering must take its pride of place and be the driver in our development effort in the state.”

” Having supervised huge engineering projects as the then Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), and working with many senior Engineers, I have come to believe over time that no nation can develop without Engineering. It is therefore a divine calling for me to support Engineering to add value to life.”

Governor Bala Mohammed mentioned some of the terms of reference of the committees to include, reporting cases of non-adherence to approved engineering codes of practice and to report all defaulters and contravention of COREN act to the Registrar and to act as COREN watchdogs on maintenance and upholding engineering codes of practice in public works among others.

He congratulated members of the committees and urged them to justify the confidence reposed in them by performing the assignment with maximum commitment and credibility.

” You should observe the ethics of your profession, there will be no tolerance for quackery. Equally, no Engineer will be allowed to supervise any project except he/she is duly registered by COREN and possesses a current practising license.”

He recalled that his administration had given with all sense of responsibility, priority attention to the development of infrastructure which include massive construction of roads, bridges, housing and water among others.

Represented by his Deputy, Senator Baba Tela, Governor Bala Mohammed reiterated the commitment of his administration towards partnering with COREN to ensure all groundwork in the state meet global standards of engineering practice.

He commended the Council on its tremendous contribution in ensuring that, engineering is practised in Nigeria by relevant codes of engineering practice and in the protection of its development and economic investment.

The Governor who approved the allocation of land for COREN Bauchi office, pledged continued support especially in providing a conducive environment to enable the engineering profession achieve its noble objectives of entrenching standards for quality delivery of projects.

Earlier, the National President, Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria (COREN), Engineer Ali Rabiu who applauded the state government for the timely inauguration committees in the state, urged members of the council to live up to expectations.

The Executive Governor of Bauchi Senator, Bala Abdulkadir Muhammad, Kauran Bauchi, had on Thursday, 22nd, October, 2020 participated as a member of the Steering Committee for Agenda 2050 and the New Development Plan 2021-2025. The governor had attended the meeting of the committee in Abuja representing North East.

The committee’s meeting which held at Transcorp Hilton Abuja discussed issues related to economy, infrastructure and health insurances.

His Excellency, the Executive Governor of Bauchi State Senator Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed had on Friday visited the Kuwait Ambassador to Nigeria Cheik Abdul Aziz Albisher at the Kuwait Embassy, Abuja.

The governor, was during the visit, accompanied by the Bauchi State PDP Chairman, Alhaji Hamza Koshe Akuyam and Bauchi Commissioner, Budget and Economic Planning, Dr Aminu Gamawa.

Governor Bala’s visit to the ambassador was in line with his administration’s efforts to woo investors towards the smooth mining operations for the overall socio-economic development of the state.

On the same day, the Executive Governor of Bauchi State Senator Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed visited the National Chairman of the People’s Democratic Party PDP Uche Secondus at his residence in Abuja.

Prince Uche who was delighted for the visit, thanked Governor Bala Muhammad.

The governor was accompanied by the Bauchi State PDP Chairman,Alhaji Hamza Koshe Akuyam and Amb. Iliya Damagum.

As hoodlums continue to break warehouses across the states of the federation, His Excellency, the Executive Governor of Bauchi State Senator Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed had made it clear that Bauchi State’s warehouse was empty.

The governor said: “Today, hoodlums attempted a raid on the #COVID19 palliative warehouse in Bauchi State. My Chief of Staff was informed and he ordered the warehouse to be opened. They looked in and saw it was empty, and they turned back. And that’s because we shared everything to beneficiaries as at when due.

“For accountability, when we started distribution months ago, I ensured to set up a high powered committee that included myself, my deputy, the State PDP Chairman and Chairmen of all political parties in the state, including traditional rulers, and others.

“The core of my mandate remains the crucial drive to give Bauchi State citizens a better prospect and more excellent opportunity for a prosperous life. We are doing this, and we will continue to do more. Said the governor.

Still on Friday, Governor Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed enjoined the newly appointed Emir of Zazzau, Ambassador Ahmed Nuhu Bamali to be fair to all members of his emirate irrespective of their religious, tribal or political inclinations.

The Governor gave the advice when the Emir accompanied by some members of Zazzau Emirate Council paid him a courtesy visit at the Council Chamber, Government House, Bauchi.

Governor Bala Mohammed said it has become necessary for the new Emir to administer his domain with fairness by treating his subject with kindness and equity.

He said the visit by the Emir of Zazzau to Bauchi will go along way towards strengthening the long existing relationship between the people of Zazzau Emirate and that of Bauchi.

The Governor who congratulated him for his appointment by the Kaduna State Government as the 19th Emir of Zazzau, urged him to consider the appointment as an opportunity for him to rededicate himself to the service of his people.

” I feel highly delighted to receive Your Royal Highness, the Emir of Zazzau, Ambassador Ahmed Nuhu Bamali on a short visit to Bauchi State, the Pearl of Tourism. I would like to, on behalf of the Government and good people of the State, welcome you and your entourage. It is indeed a momentous occasion.”

“Your Royal Highness, the jubilation and enthusiasm that greeted your appointment as a new Emir of Zazzau is a clear indication of your acceptance to the generality of the people of your Emirate.”

” Indeed, you made a history in the Zazzau Emirate for clinching the throne of your grandfather after about 100 years. We once again congratulate you for this great achievement.”

Governor Bala Mohammed stressed the need for continued partnership between the state government and the Zazzau Emirate to maintain the cordial relationship for the benefit of their citizens.

” Bauchi and Kaduna States have been together for a long. Apart from sharing common borders from different angles, our strong historical links are immemorial. We are brothers and sisters and we have no any alternative but to continue to survive as one people.”

The Governor who spoke through his Deputy, Senator Baba Tela expressed confidence that as a seasoned Administrator, the new Emir will discharge his assigned responsibilities diligently by managing his people effectively.

Earlier, the Emir of Zazzau, Ambassador Ahmed Nuhu Bamali said the visit is to seek for continued mutual partnership between his Emirate, Bauchi Emirate and the Bauchi state government.

“Your Excellency, you are aware of the long cordial relationship between Zazzau Emirate, Bauchi Emirate and the Bauchi State Government. We are here in Bauchi to solicit for continued support and collaboration.”

Ambassador Ahmed Bamali assured of his desire to consolidate on the achievements recorded by the late Emir for the progress and development of the Emirate.

In appreciation of his visit to Bauchi , the Emirs of Bauchi , Misau , Ningi , Dass and the representatives of the Emirs of Katagum and Jama’are were in attendance to solidarize with the new Emir of Zazzau.

On a sad note, His Excellency, the Executive Governor of Bauchi State Senator Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed had on Friday, 23rd, October, 2020 paid a condolence visit to the family of late Emeritus Professor John Pepper Clark.

The late Nigerian poet and playwright John Pepper Clark-Bekederemo died last week at the age of 85.

John pepper Clark Bekederemo who was born on April 6, 1935, was one of Nigeria’s foremost anglophone dramatists and poets.

Accompanied by the Bauchi State PDP Chairman Alhaji Hamza Koshe and State Commissioner for Budget and Economic Planning Dr Aminu Gamawa, the governor described the late Emeritus Professor as an icon who played a vital role in promoting peace and unity of Nigeria.

Family of the deceased thanked the governor for the condolence and wished him a safe return home.
