Bauchi Lawmakers Move to Improve Teachers’ Welfare
AREWA AGENDA- Bauchi State House of Assembly has adopted a motion calling on the state government to provide sufficient welfare packages for teachers to improve job satisfaction.
The speaker, Abubakar Y Suleiman, disclosed this at plenary shortly after a motion calling on the government to restore the dignity of teachers was moved by Hon Yusuf Inuwa Dadiye (Ganjuwa West).
Leading debate on the motion, the lawmaker said the way teachers are treated has discouraged youths from building a career in teaching.

“Instead of teachers to see themselves as the bedrock of the society, they see the profession as the most abused”, he said. Dadiye added,
“The problem in the education sector is not only in making budgetary provisions in infrastructure in schools or expending huge amount of money on curriculum development, but the teacher that is responsible for the implementation of the curriculum must be fully taken care of to get the best.”
The lawmaker urged government to provide sufficient welfare packages and incentives to teachers, construct staff quarters in at least one central primary school per ward to boost the morale of teachers.
