Bauchi Commences Diphtheria Vaccination in 5 LGAs

The Bauchi State Primary Health Care Development Agency (BSPHCDA) has commenced diphtheria vaccination in five affected local government areas to contain the spread of the disease.

Executive Chairman BSPHCDA, Dr Rilwanu Mohammed on Saturday supervised the ongoing vaccination exercise at Jama’are local government area which is the epicenter of the outbreak in the state .

Mohammad said the exercise is taking place in the five most affected local government areas of Dambam, Katagum, Itas Gadau, Zaki and Jama’are.

The target group for the vaccination are children between the ages of 6 weeks to 4 years who will receive Penta shot while those aged 4 – 14 years will have toxoid TD.

The chairman added that the agency together with partners are committed to halting the spread of Diphtheria in all the affected communities of the State.

A total number of nine hundred thousand (900,000) TD were secured for administering to the target age groups.

The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control in January 2023 announced the outbreak of the highly contagious disease in Nigeria, and since that it has continued to spread leading to morality.
