AYC Condemns Illicit Drug Addiction, Seek Partnership with Reps

AREWA AGENDA – The Arewa Youths Council, AYC, has condemned the increasing trend of drug abuse and addiction among Youths in Nigeria, seeking to partner with the Nigerians House of Representatives in order to curb the menace.

The AYC disclosed this yesterday during an interactive session with the Honourable Member representing Ado/Okpokwu/Ogbadibo Federal Constituency, Benue State, Dr Francis Ottah Agbo, who is the Chairman House Standing Committee on Drugs and Narcotics at National Assembly, Abuja.

The President of AYC, Comrade Dogo Shagari who led the National Delegation expressed his disappointment that based on statistics, Youths are the majority in the addictive behavior, thereby hence the need to partner with the House in a campaign and sensitization movement targeted at Youths population across 19 Northern States including the FCT.

Dr. Agbo who is the Spokesman of the Minority Caucus in the Green Chamber thanked the delegation for visiting him and appreciated their concerns on the Campaign and Sensitisation against Drug Abuse. He later assured AYC that he is in politics to deliver selfless service to humanity, and promised to partner with them in their campaign.

He said his committee is at the vanguard of waging concerted war against illicit drug addiction but noted that its activities are slowed down by a litany of challenges.

He said: “So far, the NDLEA which is charged with the responsibility of waging the war against illicit drug addiction is a tootless bulldog because it is underfunded, understaffed and under equiped…! This is the narrative that my committee is poised to change and it is a mission possible if all hands are on deck…”

While regretting that the country treats the campaign against drug abuse with levity, the Ozigizaga warned that if Nigeria faills to destroy drug addiction, it will destroy Nigeria!
