Ex Local Council Aide Harasses, Threatens Arewa Agenda Reporter Over Report
AREWA AGENDA – A former Special Assistant to an ex-Chairman of Rimin Gado Local Government Area of Kano State, Ibrahim Khali has threatened a Reporter with Arewa Agenda over a report published by the medium on the state of Dan Shayi village in the Local Council.
Narrating her ordeal our reporter Hannatu Sulaiman Abba said Mr. Ibrahim whose numbers was given as 08035732901 and 08173331886 was peeved that our report embarrassed his boss and queried her for doing such a story on his constituency, warning that Arewa Agenda should desist from following up further on the story otherwise “anything can happen.”
“He threatened me with calls and text messages all of which I have kept evidence. He even bragged that mere NGN10,000 is enough to kill the story that they have been doing it with our senior colleagues and we are not an exception. He said we should better desist from following up with the story otherwise whatever happens to me I brought it upon myself. He further bragged that development of the village shouldn’t be our concern as it doesn’t cost them anything to buy off the electorates during the election.”

“In a voice call, Ibrahim bragged that they are in control of all the change in their communities not so called Journalists, stating that no Journalist can frighten his “OGA” not even in their community. He went as far as saying even my own community is been governed by them in which they buy our votes and nothing will happen, He said I should go and asked my superiors in Journalism, they share money to them like chickens, they feed them so we should better stop the so called struggle or else the outcome will be tough on me.”
In July 2019, Arewa Agenda had reported that a Kano village with a population of about 5,000, had no single girl that ever obtained a secondary school certificate while the boys that managed to graduate from tertiary institutions are less than 20 in year.
Situated in Dan Yashi village, Karofin Yashi Ward, Rimin Gado Local Government of Kano State within the geographical coordinates 11° 52′ 55″ North, 8° 20′ 37″ East, Dan Yashi lacks access road, schools, power supply and is largely affected by erosion. The town has only two canoes used to cross the stream as the only means for residents to enter their village through Rafin Dan Shayi.
Arewa Agenda learnt that Mr. Ibrahim was an ardent follower and loyalist to the Chairman House Committee and Rural Development and member representing Dawakin Tofa, Rimin Gado and Tofa Federal Constituency in Kano State, Engr Tijjani Abdulkadir Jobe.
Reacting to the development, the Managing Editor of Arewa Agenda Mohammed Dahiru Lawal, said threat on its reporters is not something the medium will take lightly and it will follow all lawful avenues to ensure the matter is addressed squarely. He also stated that anything that Mr. Khali will be held responsible for any harm that comes to his reporter.
