ABU Nine: Abducted Students Regain Freedom
French Language students of Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), Zaria who were abducted by bandits along the Kaduna-Abuja Highway last Sunday have regained their freedom.
The students who were on their way to the French Village in Lagos for their Language immersion programme were trapped along Akilubu-Gidan Busa axis on the Highway when gunmen blocked both lanes of the road and opened fire on motorists.

The bandits had abducted nine out of the 12 students in an 18-seater bus and later demanded a cumulative sum of N270million as ransom from the victim’s families.
Talatu Sani, mother of Elizabeth John Sani who among the abductees had confirmed that the kidnappers reached out to them demanding N30 million for their daughter’s freedom.
The Director, Public Affairs Directorate of Ahmadu Bello University, Auwalu Umar confirmed the release of the students to Daily Trust but said he has no further details.
Umar said the students were released Saturday night.
