AAG Foundation receives Sickle Cell Community Nigerian team during advocacy visit

AREWA AGENDA – Sickle Community of Nigeria, Kano State Chapter paid a courtesy call to Adamu Abubakar Gwarzo Foundation for End of Year Achievements and Planning for 2022 programmes.

The visitation was initially paid to the Director and Technical Lead Program of Adamu Abubakar Gwarzo Foundation, Dr. Musa Abdullahi Sufi who is the serving Board Member of the Community and graced by the presence of Executive Director YOSPIS, Zainab Nasir Ahmad at Community Health Research Center (CHR) Kano State.

The Leadership of the community discussed thoroughly on their successful programmes executed in 2021 including AAG- Foundation’s support and termed the year as successful one with a lot of engagements in making awareness on the reduction of new cases of Sickle Cell in the State.

The Vice Chair of the Community who led the delegation Dr Rukayya Kamal Ibrahim listed some of the achievements and seek for further guidance from the Community Board Member.

Abdullahi Ibrahim Musa, the Sickle Cell Community Administrative Manager added their appreciations and highlighted some of the plans of the organization including renaming some of their activities to be conducted in the state for further support.

While responding to their success, Dr. Sufi appreciated the community and urged them to work tirelessly on their efforts in making Kano free from Sickle Cell as the state is recording a highest number of Sickle Cell Patients in the federation while the awareness of the disease is not up to the level of what ought to be in the state.

He said that, there is need for another possible engagements with the stakeholders to look after humanity in making sure the community is becoming more efficient in neutralising the spread of Sickle Cell not in Kano but in Nigeria at large.

 

This work shall be done, through paying a more advocacy visits to authorities concerned and engaging ulama in creating more awareness to the vulnerability of the disease and the negativity of marrying a wrong genotype spouse. Sufi added.

Sufi further said, the next year plan for Sickle Cell Community should focus on grassroots because millions are unaware of the symptoms and proper solution to the patients of Sickle Cell in their family more especially in remote areas. He further argued that many of the patients are maltreated and embarrassed because of their condition which is worst in the human aspect of life.

“We need to identify Sickle Cell Patients and proper them a workable solution for their well being and protect them with all necessary medication and scientific advise based on their health status” Sufi vowed

He further stated that, Abubakar Adamu Gwarzo Foundation in partnership with Sickle Cell TrustFunds is willing to support the movement of the community in respect of sensitization Programmes the community tends to exercise in the year 2022.

From her part, Executive Director YOSPIS, Zainab said her Organizations is ready to be helping hand in minimizing Sickle Cell spreading in Kano through a media engagements and campaign for Genotype status before marriage which is one of the successful way of the disease reduction.

She further lamented to be part and parcel of the community to achieve it’s 2022 working plan and bring a successful result at the end of year.
