AAG Foundation Joins FUDMA, WRAPA, Others To Launch GBV Tracking App In Katsina

AREWA AGENDA – In an attempt to curb the increasing cases of Gender Based Violence (GBV), the Federal University Dutsinma (FUDMA) through the institution’s Centre for Gender Studies, in partnership with Women’s Right Advancement and Protection Alternative (WRAPA) with support FORD Foundation today launched GBVApp.
The event had various stakeholders in attendance, such as the Vice Chancellor of the school, Prof. Armayau Hamisu.
Other key dignitaries at the occasion include, Her Excellency, The First Lady of Katsina State governor, VC FUDMA, VC Umaru Musa Yaradua (UMYU), Provost Isa Kaita, MAAUN, AAG Foundation, ALQALAM to mention but few.
The major aim of the event was the official launch of the CAMPUSPAL App and Educational Module and the draft Gender Violence Against Women and Girls (VAWB) as GBV safeguarding tools.
During the start of the event, the FUDMA Director Gender Studies Dr. Hanifat Abdulraheem gave a welcome remark at the event and provide details of how FUDMA secure the partnership with WRAPA the yielded the positive results from the engagement.
“I am happy to welcome you all to this historic occasion while looking forward to ensure the project remain a success in our school and beyond”. She spoke.
In his opening remarks and program declaration, the FUDMA VC professor Armayau expressed his happiness and welcome all the guest that attends the occasion from far and wide.
“I am very happy and thankful to almighty God making this event possible. Our appreciation to her excellency as she is always available to offer support to us any time. I assure the partners and guests that, we will do all it takes to ensure the success of this very important partnership in addressing the issues. We are calling to all the institution presents to adopt to this initiative and together we can succeed. I declared the event open”. Quoted Prof Armayau.
The technical remark was delivered by Secretary General WRAPA, Hajiya Sa’adatu Mahdi.
“We are delighted to receive the request for support from FUDMA, and we are glad to see the success so far like training the campus volunteers and establishing the technical working group as well as today, we are lunching app and other tools to address the menace of GBV in our campus”.

Dr Bashir Ruwan Godiya, Senior Special Adviser to Katsina State Governor on Education highlighted the timely need for this initiative and directed all the other institution to establish the same.
“This project is a great one, as disturbing statistics shows how women and girls are abused globally. Although in our religion the rights of women and girls are fully protected but neglected by many men.
“I assure you, this project will be replicated and implemented in all our state higher institutions and even those not under us will be supported to replicate. This is very important in helping us to address these shameless acts”. Highlighted by Dr Bashir.
Her excellency Hajiya Hadiza Aminu Bello who was appointed as the Ambassador of Fighting Gender Based Violence and insecurity lunch the app and other tools.
“I am grateful to be associated with this project. This is timely due to an increase disturbing trend. I hope this will be a giant’s stepping stone in ending the VAWGs in campus and community. I am hereby lunching the CampusPal App and Educational module, VAWGs policy as safeguarding tools at FUDMA”. She spoke.
The Vice Chancellor from UMYU Prof. Sunusi Mamman, and Provost of Isa Kaita Dr Ismail Ado Funtua gave good will message at the occasion as other program officer provides overview of the apps and other tools.
Dr Musa Abdullahi Sufi who is the Director General of Adamu Abubakar Gwarzo Foundation and represented Founder of Maryam Abacha American University (MAAUN) Conglomerates Professor Adamu Abubakar Gwarzo made a statement.
“This innovation of using mobile app to report and track GBV in our institution is a remarkable strategy to get more reports and action could be taken. This is part of the efforts the AAG Foundation in putting at the community level to address the menace, and with this new direction is another additional tool to reach out to more”. Dr Sufi Said.
Dr Sufi further added that, “MAAUN is GBV intolerant institution, and these models lunched will be taken forward. In fact, part of the approach, the MAAUN university founder adopts in to address the GBV in the schools include that any act of abuse reported with evidences, the person reporting the case can get One million Naira. But it has to be investigated to get clear evidence”.
