AA Gwarzo Foundation and NRHJN Distribute Sanitary Pads to Female Students in Kano
AREWA AGENDA- Adamu Abubakar Gwarzo Foundation in collaboration with Network of Reproductive Health Journalists of Nigeria, Kano Chapter, has conducted a one-day sensitization program on Menstrual Hygiene in Kano State.
The foundation distributed sanitary pads to various Secondary School Students in Kano in their efforts to promote the hygienic menstruation period of the adolescent across the state.
The Technical Lead/Coordinator, Adamu Abubakar Gwarzo Foundation, Dr Abdullahi Sufi called for the society to respond with the demands of women and adolescent girls in providing them with sanitary pads for the effective health of women.
Sufi decries that parents should support their children in creating awareness on the hygiene of their menstrual cycles and called on philanthropists in the society to make provision of sanitary pads for the healthiest of the most vulnerables who cannot afford to buy it.
Sufi also appealed to parents to educate and encourage women by providing sanitary pads to their teens during menstrual period.
Speaking during the sensitization program, the Coordinator of the Network in Kano, Abdullahi Jalaluddeen, said the network organized the sensitization program in commemoration of the World Menstrual Hygiene day and to sensitize secondary school female students to maintain menstrual hygiene, geared towards enhancing their health status.

He said the network is a non profitable organization; rather, it is a coalition of working journalists from different media outfits and like minds in uplifting the health status of the general populace.
Malam Abdullahi Jalaluddeen urged students to make maximum utilization of the sensitization and share the knowledge to other students. This was aimed at achieving the set objectives.
In her remark while presenting a lecture on Menstrual Hygiene, a Health expert working with a Government Hospital in Kano Metropolitan, Rabi Hassan, urged students to always maintain enviromental and body hygien in order to curtail infectious diseases among females in the state.
“You have to be extra careful during menstrual periods; be changing your sanitary pads twice or thrice daily, depending on the nature of your period” Rabi said.
She advised the students to always seek medical advice whenever they experience abnormal menstrual bleeding and to redouble their efforts in maintaining their personal health.
Earlier, one of the beneficiary school principal applauded the foresight and efforts of the Network of Reproductive Health Journalists of Nigeria with support from Adamu Abubakar Gwarzo Foundation for providing the knowledge and sanitary pads to the students .
She appealed to other groups and individuals to emulate the good gesture of the Network.
